The Media Industries & Communication (MIC) major at UC San Diego offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that prepares students for the modern, global, and technologically complex media landscape. The curriculum provides a historical and theoretical foundation alongside practical and critical skill sets relevant to a wide range of media sectors, including traditional (film, television, journalism) and emerging industries (streaming video, digital content, experiential media, data & AI). Students acquire expertise in media literacy, industry analysis, media economics, law, technology, creative and organizational cultures, and institutional power structures. The program is distinguished by its professional orientation and breadth, welcoming students interested in media practice, analysis, and management.
