UC San Diego’s School of Arts & Humanities offers four Literature majors: Literatures in English, Literatures in Spanish, World Literature and Culture, and Literary Arts. These programs blend critical study with creative practice, covering literature from diverse languages, genres, and media. Students develop skills in analysis, writing, and multimedia expression (e.g., podcasts, zines, public exhibits), and are encouraged to take courses across literary traditions and participate in community projects. The curriculum is interdisciplinary, including theory, history, and connections to disciplines such as philosophy, visual arts, sociology, history, psychology, linguistics, and communication. All Literature majors require proficiency in a second language.
