The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the Jacobs School of Engineering, University of California San Diego, is a four-year, ABET-accredited program designed to prepare students for entry into the industrial job market or graduate study. The multidisciplinary curriculum provides a thorough foundation in chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering sciences, and includes a strong emphasis on communication, teamwork, and real-world problem solving through laboratory and design projects. Students can pursue areas of specialization in fields such as nanotechnology, environmental engineering, materials, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and energy systems. The program culminates in a two-quarter senior laboratory focused on process design and real-world industrial problems. Graduates are encouraged to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as the first step to professional licensure.
