The Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering at UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering provides a rigorous curriculum centered on the analysis, design, and monitoring of engineered structures. The program is accredited by ABET and offers four focus sequences: Civil Structures, Aerospace Structures, Geotechnical Engineering, and Structural Health Monitoring/Nondestructive Evaluation, allowing students to tailor their education to specific industry sectors. Students receive foundational training in mathematics, physics, and core engineering disciplines, followed by advanced coursework and capstone projects linked to their chosen focus. Career pathways include roles in civil infrastructure, aerospace, construction, consultancy, and research. As of summer 2025, Structural Engineering is a screened (selective) major; non-SE students may apply subject to completion of required screening courses with a C- or better. All technical electives must be completed outside the chosen focus sequence.
