The Bachelor of Science in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) at UC San Diego is a joint major administered by the Department of Cognitive Science and the Department of Psychology. This multidisciplinary program is designed for students interested in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying perception, basic behaviors (such as hunger, sleep), and higher-level cognitive functions (such as working memory and executive function). Using research tools like single-unit recordings, fMRI, and EEG, students explore topics including neural activity and perception, cognitive processes, and the biological bases of behavior. The curriculum requires rigorous coursework in core neuroscience, psychology, and cognitive science, complemented by electives and research experiences, preparing graduates for advanced study or careers in research, medicine, health professions, and technology.
