The UC San Diego Department of Economics offers both a BA (EN25) and beginning Fall 2024, a BS (EN31) in Economics. Both degrees provide a rigorous foundation in economic theory, data analysis, and policy applications, but the BS features more advanced analytical and quantitative training. The BA program offers a flexible course structure that facilitates double majors or minors, while the BS offers a higher level of technical preparation for students interested in quantitative economic roles. Elective courses allow students to focus in areas such as policy, finance, data science, or international economics. Both tracks emphasize understanding human behavior, economic incentives, and the impact of policy decisions, opening paths in business, government, consulting, and academia.
