The Sociology—Economy and Society BA at UC San Diego's School of Social Sciences is aimed at students interested in the connections between economic institutions and social structures. The major provides rigorous training in sociological theory and methods, with a focus on understanding how economic life is embedded in broader social processes such as networks, class, gender, and institutions. Students complete four lower-division courses and twelve upper-division courses, with at least five upper-division electives selected from an approved list for the Economy and Society concentration. This pathway is especially suitable for students considering careers in business or social organizations, or who wish to understand and address issues such as social inequality, economic justice, workplace law, and organizational behavior.
