The Sociology—Social Inequality BA at UC San Diego offers a focused undergraduate program examining the processes, structures, and consequences of social inequalities within diverse contexts such as gender, race, class, language, citizenship, and sexuality. Students must complete four lower-division and twelve upper-division sociology courses, including at least five from a specialized list covering topics like the sociology of humor, gender and language, sexuality, immigration, family, education, race and ethnicity, and social networks. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical applications, making it especially suitable for students interested in careers in social services and education. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in the major and achieve at least a C– in each required course; most major courses must be taken for a letter grade.
