The Master of Science in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology (PBGB) at Michigan State University is an interdepartmental graduate program offered by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The program integrates advanced genetic, genomic, and biotechnological approaches for the improvement of crop and plant species. Students conduct research on agronomic, horticultural, and forest plants and can tailor their coursework and thesis projects in collaboration with faculty from Plant Biology, Forestry, Horticulture, and Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences. The PBGB program offers state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, access to research greenhouses and farms, and financial support opportunities through assistantships. Students develop expertise in molecular breeding, quantitative genetics, genomics, and plant biotechnology, with flexibility to select research themes (such as applied breeding, disease/insect resistance, molecular mapping, stress tolerance, etc.) that match their career interests.
