Michigan State University’s Master of Arts in Media and Information, offered by the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, is a graduate program designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the fast-evolving media and information industries. The curriculum is highly customizable, allowing students to craft their course of study or specialize in areas such as user experience (UX), media industry management, or transmedia production (film/games). Core coursework covers theory, methods, technology, design, and management of media and information. The program is STEM-designated (Digital Communication and Multi-Media, CIP 09.0702), allowing international students to qualify for OPT. Students gain practical experience through labs and research groups focused on digital innovation, UX, interactive media, and social impacts of media. Both thesis (Plan A) and project (Plan B) tracks are available. Most students complete the program within 3 semesters (around 18 months), though some may extend for internships or major projects. The program prepares graduates for professional practice or doctoral study.
