The Master of Arts in Musicology/Ethnomusicology at Michigan State University College of Music prepares students for both doctoral study and arts careers by engaging them in rigorous historical and social analysis of music as a diverse social practice. The program covers a broad range of topics including medieval, renaissance, jazz, popular, Caribbean, Eastern European, sub-Saharan African, North American Indigenous music, intellectual and cultural property, and gender/sexuality in music. The curriculum features a multidisciplinary approach, seminars, individual research projects, and opportunities for conference presentation. The program is supported by a renowned faculty and exceptional resources including a music library and collections of historical instruments.
