The Bachelor of Arts in African American and African Studies at Michigan State University’s College of Arts and Letters is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program focused on the lives, histories, cultures, and creative expressions of Black peoples. Students are encouraged to critically engage with the diversity and complexity of Black communities, explore Black feminisms, genders, and sexualities, and experience collaborative, creative, and research-based coursework. The degree features three primary concentrations: Communities in Action, Creative Expression, Culture and Performance, and Black Institutions, Sustainability, and Statecraft. Graduates develop deep analytical skills, cultural competence, and knowledge applicable to careers in community engagement, education, policy, and advocacy.
