The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science at Lyman Briggs College, Michigan State University, prepares students with a strong biomedical science foundation and targeted laboratory skills for careers in clinical, hospital, and research laboratories. The curriculum integrates science lectures, laboratory courses, and practical clinical rotations. The program includes at least 11 credits in Science and Society, major and coordinate courses in biology (minimum 9 credits with labs), chemistry (9 credits with labs), mathematics, and senior capstone work. Students admitted to the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) track complete 14 credits of courses at affiliated clinical laboratories. The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), qualifying graduates to sit for the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification exam. Nationally, trained medical laboratory scientists are in high demand, with job growth projected to rise 19% by 2030.
