NYU Abu Dhabi’s BS in Physics provides hands-on training through classroom instruction, advanced laboratories, and research. Students learn the fundamental laws of nature, quantitative reasoning, and programming skills, with opportunities to engage in research on topics such as black holes, exoplanets, galaxies, dark matter, condensed matter phenomena, and biophysics. The curriculum includes a six-course Foundations of Science sequence, core physics courses (mechanics, electromagnetism and special relativity, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, advanced physics laboratory), mathematics (calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, ordinary differential equations), electives, a research seminar, and a two-semester capstone. Study abroad is typically in the spring of the third year; completion of Foundations of Science is required before going abroad. Optional specializations include Astrophysics (four astrophysics electives, at least one lab; certain half-courses must be paired) and Biophysics (three required biophysics courses plus one elective, shared across natural sciences).
