NYU College of Arts & Science’s Department of Art History offers a rigorous and wide-ranging BA that introduces students to global art from antiquity to the present, covering painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, graphic media, manuscript illumination, decorative arts, and aspects of urban design. The department is among the few undergraduate programs with extensive offerings in conservation and museology, publishes the student journal Ink & Image, and offers an honors track culminating in a senior thesis and oral defense. Located in New York City, students study artworks on site in museums, galleries, and architectural landmarks; courses are also available at NYU study-away sites such as Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, and Prague. Graduates pursue roles in museums, galleries, auction houses, nonprofits, or continue to graduate study for careers as curators, conservators, and academic art historians.
