Global Liberal Studies (GLS) is an innovative, interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree that examines a highly interconnected world through the critical and creative study of texts and contexts, movements of ideas and peoples, material cultures, cities, crossroads, and changing media of communication. The major emphasizes experiential learning, a year of study away within NYU’s Global Network (most students spend the entire junior year abroad), a semester-long internship or place-based independent study in junior year, advanced language study, and a senior thesis based on original research or creative production. All classes are small, discussion-based seminars enriched by site-based learning in global cities, preparing graduates for advanced study and international careers across sectors such as finance, media, and human rights.
