The BA/BS in Medical Anthropology at Ohio State University’s College of Arts and Sciences integrates biological and sociocultural anthropology to understand human health, illness, and well-being across global and historical contexts. Students study how biology, culture, and the environment intersect to shape variability in health through both evolutionary and biocultural lenses. The program covers health disparities, healing practices, chronic and infectious diseases, evolutionary medicine, and healthcare systems worldwide. Graduates are equipped to address major health challenges and pursue careers in healthcare, public health, health policy, social work, and related fields. The BS track is oriented toward students seeking intensive preparation for health professions and graduate study in health-related disciplines, whereas the BA offers a broader focus suitable for a wide array of health-related careers.
