The Bachelor of Arts in Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences offers a broad, interdisciplinary exploration of the medieval and early modern periods, spanning late antiquity to the mid-seventeenth century and reaching across Europe, the Mediterranean, Near East, and Asia. The program is administered by the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS) and is designed to adapt to individual student interests, emphasizing historical traditions and the lasting relevance of the medieval and Renaissance eras in today's world. Students engage deeply with literary, artistic, musical, philosophical, and religious traditions, develop foreign language skills, and gain analytical abilities applicable to both the study of ancient artifacts and contemporary issues. The curriculum requires 33 semester hours, including core courses, a senior seminar, foreign language study beyond the general education requirement, and a concentration in a primary field complemented by electives. The program prepares students for graduate study, professional schools, and careers in areas such as education, museums, the arts, communications, publishing, government, nonprofit organizations, libraries, and archives.
