The Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Hearing Science at Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences provides foundational knowledge about the normal and disordered functioning of the auditory system, speech mechanism, and language processing. The program prepares students to think critically about human communication and to engage with both basic and applied research, as well as clinical applications. Areas covered include anatomy, physiology, psychology, linguistics, physics, engineering, medicine, and education. The program is designed for students interested in pursuing graduate study or careers as speech-language pathologists, audiologists, or research scientists. About 85% of students who apply to graduate programs get admission offers. The curriculum includes nine core courses and at least two advanced electives; students are also encouraged to complete background coursework in biology, psychology, and mathematics. The degree supports careers in healthcare, rehabilitation, education, community services, and private practice.
