The BA in Classical Studies at the University of Chicago offers comprehensive exploration of Greek and Roman antiquity, preparing students with strong interpretation and writing skills for a variety of careers in teaching, research, law, publishing, and the humanities. The program is structured around three main variants: (1) Language and Literature, focusing on Greek and Latin texts alongside diverse fields such as art, archaeology, and philosophy; (2) Language Intensive, emphasizing reading a larger selection of texts in original languages, suitable for those intending graduate study in classics; and (3) Greek and Roman Cultures, focusing on art, archaeology, history, material culture, and literature in translation. All majors complete a Senior Seminar in their final year as a capstone experience. Writing a BA thesis is optional, but required for honors. Students may double major or minor by fulfilling the respective requirements.
