The Bachelor of Science in Biological Chemistry at the University of Chicago is a rigorous interdisciplinary program jointly offered by the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The curriculum prepares students for advanced study or careers in biochemical and biophysical sciences by integrating chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, biophysics, and biotechnology. Undergraduate research is strongly encouraged; students gain direct exposure to modern research techniques and interdisciplinary scientific approaches. Coursework covers chemistry and physics of macromolecules, enzyme and hormone mechanisms, and cellular processes. Select high-achieving students may participate in a four-year joint BS/MS program. Honors are available for those completing a research paper. The program enables students to pursue a variety of fields within biomedical science and technology.
