The BA in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Oxford allows students to combine the in-depth study of one modern language with the theoretical analysis of human language itself. Half of the course covers practical language skills and the study of literature and culture of the chosen European language, while the Linguistics component includes general linguistics, phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, and aspects of language history and structure. Students are trained to achieve fluency in their chosen language and develop analytical skills critical for a wide range of careers. Students spend a year abroad before their final year to immerse themselves in the language and culture they are studying. Oxford offers access to world-class libraries and specialist resources for linguistics and modern languages.
