The BA in Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford offers a broad and balanced exploration of the Christian tradition as well as five major world religions. Students critically engage with texts, languages (choice of Biblical Hebrew, Church Latin, New Testament Greek, Qur’anic Arabic, Pali, Sanskrit), religious history, philosophy, and ethics, gaining an understanding of both religious traditions and their wider social, cultural, and political contexts. Study is assessed mainly through written examinations and a compulsory thesis. The degree equips graduates with analytical, comparative, and linguistics skills, preparing them to form independent judgments on theological and religious themes. Tutorials, lectures, and seminars are mainly delivered by leading specialists, offering student-centred learning and close support by college tutors.
