The Botany program at the Faculty of Science, University of British Columbia, is integrated with UBC’s Biology program and is coordinated by the Departments of Botany and Zoology. This program studies the structure, properties, and biochemical processes of plant life—including algae, fungi, ferns, and trees—as well as plant classification, plant diseases, and plant-environment interactions. Students have access to leading-edge research facilities such as the Biological Sciences Building and the Biodiversity Research Centre. The curriculum offers both Major and Honours specializations in Plant Biology, with extensive laboratory and field experiences, and covers topics in plant ecology, evolution, genetics, physiology, taxonomy, and environmental impact assessment. Undergraduate research opportunities and hands-on training are emphasized.
