Materials Engineering at UBC explores the entire lifecycle of materials, from extraction and processing to utilization, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and societal impact. Students gain foundational knowledge in metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites, paired with hands-on laboratory experience, industry-relevant skills, and opportunities for co-operative education (20 months of work experience possible). The program is fully accredited and cultivates expertise for high-demand sectors like critical minerals, sustainable energy, aerospace, manufacturing, and biomaterials. Admission to the Materials Engineering program occurs after a general first-year engineering curriculum. Graduates are prepared for leadership in research, industry, and beyond.
