The Master of Urban Studies (MUrb) at Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary graduate program focused on understanding the complexity of modern cities and enabling individuals and organizations to improve urban life. The curriculum integrates economic, geographic, political, and social analysis, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills to address real-world urban issues such as governance, sustainability, and community development. Courses are offered in the evening at downtown Vancouver campus to accommodate working professionals as well as full-time students. Typical courses include Urban Professional Development, Urban Design, Comparative Metropolitan Governance, and Urban Communities and Cultures. Students benefit from strong academic and applied research, with many graduates pursuing roles in planning, governance, and non-profit leadership. The program is accessible to students from varied backgrounds but especially welcomes those with undergraduate training in economics, geography, sociology, history, or political science.
