The Master of Arts (MA) in Education Individual Program at Simon Fraser University’s Faculty of Education is a research-intensive graduate program designed for students whose research interests cannot be accommodated in regular master's programs. Students create an individualized curriculum with a faculty sponsor, propose a tailored research inquiry, and complete 25 units of coursework plus a thesis for a minimum of 43 units. The thesis must generate or critically examine novel educational theory or practice. Admission requires a detailed proposal and approval by the graduate program director based on resource availability and suitability.
