The Master of Science (MSc) in Earth Sciences at Simon Fraser University (Faculty of Science) is a research-focused graduate degree that combines coursework with original research in a variety of earth science disciplines. Areas of study and faculty expertise span earth surface processes, geological hazards, environmental geoscience, surficial and Quaternary geology, petroleum geology, glaciology, sedimentology, hydrogeology, volcanology, petrology, tectonics, geophysics, and geochemistry. The program trains students for a broad range of professional and research careers in geoscience and offers eligibility for professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) registration. Students must complete a minimum of 30 units, including graduate coursework, a thesis proposal, and a successfully defended thesis. The program expects completion within 6 terms (2 years, full-time).
