The Master of Pest Management (MPM) at Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Science is a research-based program focusing on the biology and management of pests affecting agriculture, forestry, urban environments, and human health. The program distinguishes itself from a standard MSc through its strong applied orientation and engagement with practitioners, giving students broad, interdisciplinary training and exposure to current methodologies. The curriculum includes core and elective graduate courses and culminates in an independent thesis project involving field or laboratory research. Students are trained in diagnosis, decision-making, ecological theory, biological control, population modeling, pest biology, and the social/economic context of pest management. The program has a longstanding reputation since its inception in 1967 and is recognized for both national and international contributions to pest management research and practice.
