The Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at the University of Alberta (College of Social Sciences and Humanities) provides a specialized education in criminology focused on crime, its causes, responses to crime, and social control. The program combines core courses in sociology and criminology with broad interdisciplinary study and emphasizes research methods, social theory, and hands-on experience. Students can choose between a Course Based Stream and a Field Placement Stream. Field Placement Stream students complete two field placements in real criminal justice settings and a major research paper. Course Based students have opportunities for research-based skills, community service learning, and paid workplace experiences. The program prepares graduates for careers in law, policing, corrections, social policy, or related fields.
