The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering) program at the University of Alberta teaches students to protect natural ecosystems, human health, and quality of life by applying engineering principles to environmental and public health challenges. The curriculum combines natural sciences (chemistry, biology, microbiology) with engineering expertise to address complex societal problems such as designing water treatment plants, waste management facilities, landfills, and air quality control systems. The program begins with a foundational first year, after which students specialize in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Engineering option. Students gain hands-on experience, participate in research, and enjoy strong industry connections located in the heart of Western Canada's energy and resource sectors. Possible careers include Environmental Engineer, Water/Wastewater Engineer, Remediation Engineer, Hazardous Waste Management Engineer, and Climate Change Engineer.
