The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (BScKin) at the University of Alberta is a specialized science degree focused on human movement, emphasizing the enhancement of human performance, health promotion, and the prevention and management of chronic disease. Students study foundational sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, biomechanics, research methods) and may pursue practical experience through in-field learning and community service opportunities, including placements at the Steadward Centre for adapted physical activity. The program prepares graduates for careers such as kinesiologist, exercise therapist, rehabilitation specialist, and certified exercise physiologist, and provides a strong foundation for further study in medicine, physical therapy, and related health fields. Example courses include Human Anatomy, Introduction to Human Physiology, Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Biomechanics, Physical Activity and Chronic Disease Management. The Faculty offers state-of-the-art research and athletic facilities, with small class sizes and interactive programming.
