The BA (Hons) Archaeology program at the University of Nottingham covers the human story from prehistory to the modern world. Students build foundational knowledge in the first year and then select specialist modules in topics such as human osteology or medieval architecture. The curriculum incorporates 20 days of compulsory archaeological fieldwork, which can be fulfilled through excavation projects or placements in the UK or abroad. Core modules include theoretical, practical, and public engagement aspects ('Communicating the Past'). Students have the option to choose modules from related subjects (history, philosophy, art history) or study a language. The degree integrates hands-on experience—handling artefacts, participating in educational projects at the University Museum, and collaborating with research centers like the British Geological Survey. Graduates gain broad skills in archaeological theory, field techniques, and critical engagement with world cultures.
