The Wildlife Biology Specialization at McGill University's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences focuses on the ecology of vertebrate animals, their interactions with their environment, and the management and conservation of wildlife species. The program combines theoretical learning with hands-on experience gained in laboratories, the field, and through use of the Macdonald campus’s resources including the Avian Science and Conservation Centre, the McGill Arboretum, the Stonycrof Wildlife Area, and the Ecomuseum. Students study biological and ecological principles relevant to mammals, birds, and fishes, as well as management methods for maintaining healthy wildlife populations. The curriculum includes core courses such as GIS for Natural Resource Management, Mammalogy, Ornithology, and Fisheries and Wildlife Management. Field courses in diverse ecosystems, including international destinations, are encouraged. This specialization must be taken alongside a relevant major, such as Environmental Biology, within the B.Sc.(Ag.Env.Sc.). Graduates can pursue careers in wildlife research, environmental consulting, conservation, governmental agencies, or proceed to graduate studies.
