The Bachelor of Education (Music Education) at McGill University is typically offered via the Concurrent B.Mus./B.Ed. program. This five-year, 170-credit program is designed to develop skilled professional music educators eligible for teacher certification in Quebec. Coursework combines intensive music studies (music history, theory, musicianship, pedagogy, instrumental/vocal/conducting techniques), with comprehensive education classes, educational foundations, and four school-based field experiences. Graduates are prepared to teach music at both elementary and secondary school levels and to work across general, choral, and band music education. As of the 2025-2026 academic year, the concurrent program is under review and not admitting new students, but direct entry into the standalone B.Ed. (Music) may be available for applicants with a prior Bachelor of Music degree.
