The Bachelor of Science (Earth System Science) at McGill University is an interdisciplinary program housed in the Faculty of Science that focuses on the connections between the Earth's biological, chemical, physical, and human subsystems. Students examine energy and matter cycling through the biosphere, atmosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere, and solid Earth, employing a systems approach to understand environmental change and global challenges. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in quantitative scientific methods and includes core courses across ecology, environment, geography, geology, meteorology, and oceanography. Specialized streams or flexible interdisciplinary coursework are available. The program prepares graduates for careers or further studies in environmental consulting, government, NGOs, re-insurance research, product life-cycle management, and software development for sustainability.
