The Bachelor of Arts - Major Concentration in Religious Studies at McGill University (Faculty of Arts, School of Religious Studies) offers students a rigorous academic exploration of religion through comparative, historical, methodological, and thematic lenses. Students study a variety of religious traditions, both Eastern and Western, with core instruction in methodologies, key theories, religious philosophy, and the cultural/political context of religion. The program requires foundational courses such as Introduction to the Study of Religions (RELG 207) and Theories of Religion (RELG 456), and offers a rich selection of electives addressing diverse traditions (e.g., Buddhism, Christianity, philosophy of religion). Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary perspectives—philosophical, anthropological, sociological, psychological—and engaging contemporary issues around religion in global society. The major concentration is designed to complement other majors or minors in the B.A. structure, fitting students interested in teaching, research, law, public service, journalism, and more.
