The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design is a two-year, full-time graduate program focused on the professional development of studio artists. The curriculum encourages intellectual exploration and the development of individualized artistic methods, integrating work in the studio with critical seminars, workshops, visiting artist interactions, and teaching opportunities. The program is highly interdisciplinary, allowing for electives across Penn and offering several dual degrees (e.g., MFA+MSW, MFA+MLA, MFA+MSHP, MFA+MCP). Students participate in exhibitions, public lectures, professional workshops, and may compete for teaching assistantships and teaching positions in their final year. The program emphasizes critical awareness, technical breadth, independent research, and engagement with contemporary artistic and social issues.
