The Master of Urban Spatial Analytics (MUSA) at the Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, is an intensive one-year graduate program that prepares students to use spatial analysis, data science, and GIS to solve major urban planning and public policy challenges. The curriculum integrates courses in spatial analysis, statistics, R and Python programming, data visualization, and web-based mapping, leveraging resources from both the School of Design and the Penn Institute for Urban Research. The program targets future civic technologists, emphasizing practical and theoretical skills, cohort-based learning, networking, and career support. Students must complete 9–10 courses and two preparatory summer bootcamps in GIS and statistics. Upon graduation, alumni pursue roles across public, private, and non-profit sectors, contributing as data scientists and analysts in the urban context.
