The Master of Science in Social Policy (MSSP) at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2) is an interdisciplinary, graduate-level program designed to equip students with rigorous training in policy analysis, research and evaluation, quantitative and qualitative reasoning, and policy communication. The program's curriculum includes 10 courses completed in either 11 months (full-time) or up to 2.5 years (part-time), featuring core courses in policy analysis, research design, quantitative reasoning, law and social policy, economics, and a capstone project. Students complete a 250-hour policy internship, gaining real-world experience. The program prepares graduates to address social inequities and create evidence-informed policy solutions in sectors such as government, nonprofits, and research. Students may customize their studies through interdisciplinary electives, including coursework in other Penn graduate schools, and can pursue the specialized MSSP+DA (Data Analytics for Social Policy) track. MSSP emphasizes social justice, equity, and effective policy leadership across multiple fields (e.g., health, housing, education, immigration).
