The MES at York University’s Faculty of Environmental & Urban Change is a self-directed, interdisciplinary master’s program centering on an individualized Plan of Study. Students develop their own research focus in collaboration with faculty, covering critical topics such as climate change, sustainability transitions, food systems, environmental and Indigenous justice, and urban and regional planning. The program is highly flexible, allowing students to pursue research via thesis, major paper, project, or portfolio, and aims to prepare policy planners, decision-makers, and project leaders who drive positive social and environmental change. The program encourages engaging with both theory and practice, offering a setting for students from diverse backgrounds, including mid-career professionals, to address socio-environmental issues. Admission preference is given to applicants with a background related to their chosen field of study.
