The Master of Conference Interpreting (MCI) at Glendon College, York University, is a rigorous graduate program designed to produce expert interpreters for high-level conferences and multilingual environments. The curriculum spans two years and emphasizes hands-on training in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting between English and another working language (from among Arabic, English, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish). Students must pass an initial aptitude test to enter the program and a transition examination to continue into the second year. Upon successful completion, graduates earn the MCI degree and are prepared for careers with international organizations, governmental agencies, and freelance contracts in Canada and globally. The program responds to growing demand for qualified conference interpreters as many professionals in the field approach retirement and global meetings increase. Midway, students may opt to exit with a Graduate Diploma in General Interpreting.
