The Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) in Environmental Arts & Justice at York University’s Faculty of Environmental & Urban Change is an interdisciplinary program combining critical thinking, creative practice, and hands-on learning. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of how political, cultural, economic, and social systems shape environmental crises and learn to analyze, challenge, and innovate solutions for global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental racism, Indigenous sovereignty, food justice, and more. The curriculum covers topics from environmental science and policy to literature, performance, and media, offering both classroom and community-engaged experiences. There are no portfolio or previous arts background requirements and artistic expression is encouraged for all students. The program emphasizes leadership, analytical, creative, collaborative, and presentation skills and features opportunities for field trips, internships, and pathways to graduate study.
