The Comparative Literature BA at King’s College London (Faculty of Arts & Humanities) explores literature across different countries, cultures, periods and genres. Students study literature from ancient to modern times, covering Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, South Asia, China and Africa. The programme allows wide flexibility in module selection, including topics such as African literature in English and French, modern Indian literature, the eighteenth-century European novel, and cross-disciplinary approaches with film and visual arts. Study is primarily through translated texts, but language learning opportunities exist so students can engage with works in the original language. The curriculum is designed to develop strong analytical, critical thinking and communication skills, preparing graduates for diverse careers in fields like publishing, journalism, education, business, and cultural institutions.
