The Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (BEng BME) at McMaster University is part of the Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences (iBioMed) program, making it the first in Canada to offer a truly interdisciplinary 5-year undergraduate experience (with co-op available). Students undertake a common first year covering foundational topics in engineering fundamentals, biomedical engineering, health sciences, design, entrepreneurship, and problem-based learning. After the first year, students choose their specialization in biomedical engineering within a parent discipline such as Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Engineering Physics, Materials, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Software Engineering. The program integrates engineering and health sciences and emphasizes hands-on design projects, innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaborative learning. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in health technology, medical diagnostics, device development, and biomedical research.
