The UVic MA in English offers advanced training in literary studies and critical theory. Students take graduate-level courses across major literary periods and topics, culminating in a research-based Master’s Essay or Project (approx. 10,000 words) or a thesis (up to 27,000 words for CSPT). Specializations are available, including Cultural, Social, and Political Thought. The program prepares students for PhD study or professional careers in education, library science, or other humanities fields. Instruction is flexible, with both in-person and online course options; co-op participation is possible. All full-time MA students are funded for 12 months, with part-time options and intake in September or January.
