The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Arts at the University of Victoria is a two-year, full-time, research-based degree program designed to expand studio practice and creative expression. Students receive a private studio space, engage in critical seminar discussions, and benefit from individual faculty supervision. The program covers traditional and experimental forms across drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital media. Emphasizing contemporary practices, students are encouraged to explore work that defies conventional categories. The program includes opportunities to teach undergraduates, with the final milestone being a solo exhibition. Co-op placements are optional, and a paid teaching position is offered in the second year.
