The Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at the University of Victoria (Faculty of Humanities) provides a comprehensive background in all aspects of linguistic description and theory. The program covers how language is structured, acquired, processed, and used in society. Students can pursue optional concentrations, such as Indigenous Languages, Language and Speech, and Language and Society. Graduates are prepared for a wide range of careers in education, speech technology, speech pathology, translation, advocacy, and community outreach. The curriculum includes foundational and advanced courses such as phonetics, grammar, language acquisition, second language teaching, and sociolinguistics; in 2025, course offerings include Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology, How to Learn a Language, Second Language Acquisition, and Issues in Cross-Cultural Communication.
