The Bachelor of Science (Earth Sciences) at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Science offers a comprehensive study of the processes that shape our planet. Students will learn about chemical and physical properties of rocks and minerals, geological evolution, ocean and atmosphere development, and the history of environmental and biological changes over geological time. The program emphasizes both classroom and practical field experience, preparing graduates for careers such as geologist, environmental geoscientist, and consultant. The degree includes core courses in Earth Science, chemistry, mathematics, biology, and physics, alongside electives and fieldwork. Students initially apply as 'Science: Major Undeclared' and later declare an Earth Sciences major after meeting first-year requirements. Sample courses include Oceans and Atmosphere, The Dynamic Earth, Earth System Evolution, Earth Science Field School, and Advanced Field Geology.
