Dalhousie University’s MA in International Development Studies is an interdisciplinary, research-focused program exploring issues of poverty, social inequity, and environmental degradation, with strong emphasis on theory, methodology, and development practice. Students study contemporary development challenges from global and interdisciplinary perspectives. The curriculum draws on courses from across the social sciences, environment, law, and policy fields. Experiential learning, cross-cultural research opportunities, and study abroad programs are offered, preparing graduates for work in international organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and policy analysis roles. The program is thesis-based and fosters critical, practical, and ethical understandings of international development.
